WCAG 1.1.1 · Level A
Image Redundant Alt
- What is broken
- Alt text repeats the caption or link text next to it, so screen readers announce the same thing twice.
- Who it affects
- Blind and low-vision visitors using a screen reader get nothing where the image should be — often just a file name read aloud.
- How to fix it
- Remove alt text that duplicates adjacent visible text, or make it describe something the visible text does not.
